Description: The 2022 Census TIGER boundary files for Maryland census tracts are imported into a file geodatabase, projected to Maryland State Plane HARN (NAD 83/91) US survey feet, and then joined to the City's standard 2018-2022 American Community Survey (ACS) 5-year core extract. The joined version is then exported to a separate feature class, retaining both the TIGER fields and the ACS fields.For census tracts that are wholly or partially within the City of Gaithersburg, additional fields are provided that tabulate the proportion of households, population, and dwelling units within each tract that are attributable to areas within the City limits. These fields are based on the 2020 Decennial Census PL 94-171 Redistricting Summary File (for both total tract and City-only numbers), the City's January and July 2020 Dwelling Units and Population Reports (for City-only numbers), and the City's January and July 2020 households_population_jobs feature classes and SDAT information for areas beyond those FCs but within the Census tract (for total dwelling units based on parcels). An additional "override housing units" field is also provided, which gives the best "true" estimate of the proportion of census tract housing units that are within the City, by (1) using the City's July 2020 households_population_jobs feature class (parcel-based) and SDAT-based parcel information for all areas of the census tract; (2) calculating 1.0 for all tracts that are entirely within the City, regardless of Decennial Census information; and (3) using 0.0 for all tracts that contain no dwelling units within the City, regardless of Decennial Census information.For additional information about the source TIGER files from the Census, please consult this web link: https://www.census.gov/geographies/mapping-files/time-series/geo/tiger-geodatabase-file.htmlFor additional information about the ACS extract, including a brief description of each included field, please consult the metadata for the Extract table and the source Excel table.
